Dietrich Varez Legacy: The Expanded Collection
In spring of 2024, the Volcano Art Center and The Magic Mo produced "The Dietrich Varez Legacy Program" funded by a grant from the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities, through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Expanded Collection featured unpublished works of the artist which has recently been made available through the Varez Family Estate.
This was a very special program that shared the life and artwork of renowned printmaker, painter and author Dietrich Varez. The Varez Legacy program honored Varez’s life, art and legacy through a free public exhibit, a talk-story event, movie screening and online exhibition. The Programs shared Dietrich's deep connections to Hawaiʻi’s peoples, stories, and places which inspired him to create the art and writings he is well known for. A true artist for the people, Varez carved a deep understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian values and lifestyle that can be learned and perpetuated through his art.
This collection is now available for viewing and prints can be purchased.
