M42 Hina Lau Limu Kala by Hawaii Artist Dietrich Varez
Some say the most beautiful Hina is the goddess associated with limu kala, a type of seaweed often used for healing and ceremonial purposes. It was used as the central ingredient in the huikala ceremony to purify fishermen. At times it was used as a lei which was draped over a person suffering from illness. As the patient entered the sea, and the lei drifted away, the illness would drift away as well.
